Health Care Access

Begun in 1988, Health Care Access is a local non-profit organization that provides access to health care for Douglas County, Kansas residents with limited financial means and who are not covered by private or governmental insurance programs. Health Care Access services include a primary care clinic, a volunteer doctor clinic, referrals, some dental services, and drug and pharmacy assistance. The River City Cosmopolitan Club has donated or committed over $46,000 to assist Health Care Access with the purchase of diabetic test strips. In addition, Health Care Access has received two Cosmopolitan Diabetes Foundation grants, the latest being in 2003 for $1,400, to assist with the care of their diabetic patients. River City Cosmopolitan Club members have also volunteered with landscaping projects and odd jobs at the Health Care Access clinic on numerous occasions.
